SURF CROSSFIT
If you are a surfer, kitesurfer, snowboarder or a stand up paddle surfing or doing any sports that are weather dependent, such as surfing / windsurfing etc, can be infuriatingly unpredictable, and you can go months on end without a day where ‘not being at work’ co-incides with a good forecast. Also when most of us have full time jobs too, we have to accept the fact that we can’t be out there as much as we would like. So it makes sense to ensure that we are maximizing our precious time on the water by being as fit for it as possible.
Surfing requires a mix of strength, power, endurance, mobility, stability, balance and fluidity and of course the heart and lungs to keep this all going as you battle it out past the white water, that can all be perfectly developed by using a properly constructed workout.
We will work on the areas of:
Flexibility, Balance and mobility training
One of the most important elements in fitness, yet often forgotten, is flexibility. When your muscles are tighter than they should be, your body’s movement is restricted. That is why it is important to reinact and build on the movements that will be performed when in the surf. Here we will perform a number of movements which will in there own increase your flexibility, balance and mobility.

Strength training
No matter your level in the surf you need to have and constantly work your strength. Bursts of speed , duck diving under a set all require strength when surfing. This is why strength training is a power component to improving your surfing. Strength training consists of relatively short bursts of muscular force anywhere up to1 or 2 minutes. This type of training builds size and strength and power in the muscles and conditions them to store more energy for immediate use. Working strength also benefits in increased energy levels, reduced injury potential, increased bone density, increased body circulation and heightened body awareness.
Endurance training
When surfing, not only do you need flexibility and strength for consistent paddling but also muscular endurance to maintain stamina for the entire surf session. To increase your Endurance/Stamina we use different programs of cardiovascular activities, which will consist of Frequency: The number of times the endurance exercise is performed in a particular period of time. Duration: The length of time it takes to perform the exercise. Intensity: The effort level reached during the exercise. Type: The choice of exercise performed in a workout
